Frank and Drake is a point-and-click adventure game developed by Appnormals Team and published by Chorus Worldwide. The game was released on the 20th Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S as well as other systems. This game recently came out and for some reason I haven't seen many people talking about it, which baffles me as it's a bit of an Indie gem!
The game follows the story of Frank, a middle-aged man who is the super of a run-down apartment block. Frank is worried that he is losing his mind, and he is constantly having strange and vivid dreams. One day, he meets Drake, a mysterious young man who is allergic to sunlight. Drake only operates at night, and the two roommates are forced to communicate solely through sticky notes left for each other around the apartment.
Despite their separation, Frank and Drake must work together to uncover the mystery that is threatening them both. The game features multiple endings, depending on the choices that the player makes.
Frank and Drake is a point-and-click adventure game, so the gameplay is relatively simple. The player controls Frank and Drake by clicking on objects and locations to interact with them. The game features a variety of puzzles that the player must solve in order to progress. They require the player to use their observational skills and problem-solving abilities. The game also features a hint system that can be used if the player gets stuck.
The game also deals with some mature themes, such as mental illness, addiction, and loss. However, these themes are handled with sensitivity and care, and they never feel exploitative.
The graphics in Frank and Drake are stunning. The game uses a rotoscoping technique, which gives the characters and environments a unique and dreamlike quality (very reminiscent of A Scanner Darkly - which you should all go and watch by the way!). The animation is smooth and fluid, and the level design is detailed and atmospheric. The game features a haunting soundtrack that perfectly complements the visuals. The voice acting is also excellent, and the characters really come to life through their performances.
Pros:
Stunning visuals
Excellent audio
Intricate puzzles
Engaging story
Well-developed characters
Cons:
Some puzzles can be frustrating
The game can be slow-paced at times
The ending can be a bit anticlimactic
Frank and Drake is a fantastic point-and-click adventure game that is sure to please fans of the genre. The game features stunning visuals, excellent audio, and intricate puzzles. The story is engaging and the characters are well-developed. However, some puzzles can be frustrating and the game can be slow-paced at times. Overall, Frank and Drake is a great game that is worth playing with visuals and audio that are also top-notch, and the game is sure to leave you wanting more.
