DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of the Nine Realms is a 3D action-adventure game developed by AHEARTFULOFGAMES and published by Outright Games. It was released on September 23, 2022 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
The game is based on the DreamWorks Dragons: The Nine Realms animated television series, which takes place 1,300 years after the events of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. Players take control of Thunder, a young dragon who must rescue his family and save the dragon kingdoms from a new threat. Apparently this game takes place before the series starts (although I have never watched the show to verify this).
Pros:
Visually appealing graphics: DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of the Nine Realms features colorful and chunky environments and well-designed dragons. The game's art style is faithful to the DreamWorks Dragons television series, and the game world is full of interesting details to explore.
Fun and challenging combat for younger players: The game's combat is simple and easy to learn, but it can be challenging at times, especially in the later levels. This makes the game ideal for younger players who are looking for a fun and accessible challenge.
Simple and Easy-to-Learn Mechanics: The game's mechanics are straightforward and easy to grasp, making it accessible for younger players and those new to action-adventure games. The controls are intuitive, and the game provides clear instructions and tutorials.
Variety of dragons to choose from: Players can choose from a variety of different dragons to play as, each with their own unique abilities. This allows players to find a dragon that suits their playstyle and customize their experience.
Cons:
Simplistic Combat: While the combat is enjoyable for younger players, it may feel too simplistic for experienced gamers. The enemy AI can be predictable, and the combat lacks depth and complexity.
Repetitive Quest Design: Some quests can feel repetitive and lack variety, often involving simple fetch or escort tasks.
Limited Replay Value: The game's relatively short campaign and lack of additional modes or challenges may limit its replay value for some players.
Lack of Co-op: This feels like a great game to play with a friend!

DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of the Nine Realms is a welcome reminder of a period of gaming that has sadly passed, it's an enjoyable experience for fans of the DreamWorks Dragons series or those who miss the Skylanders series (as the gameplay, camera angle and overall tone do feel very similar). However, its lack of co-op play is a big missed opportunity as this definitely feels like a game kids would love to play with together!
