Another Fisherman's Tale is a puzzle game developed by Innerspace VR and published by Vertigo Games. It is the sequel to the 2019 award-winning A Fisherman's Tale, and was released for the PS5 and PSVR 2 in May, 2023. I never had chance to play the original unfortunately but i was really looking forward to trying this one out once I got my PSVR 2 headset! The story of the game begins with Nina, a young girl who is visiting her mother's house. In the basement, she finds a collection of dioramas that her father used to tell her stories about when she was younger. As she explores the dioramas, she finds herself transported into their miniature worlds, where she must solve a variety of different puzzles to progress.
The dioramas are all connected to Nina's fathers past, and as she explores them, she learns more about his life and his relationship with her. She learns about his childhood, his lifes dreams, and the struggles he went through. She also learns about the circumstances of his death.
The puzzles in the dioramas are all symbolic of the challenges that Nina's father faced in his life. By solving the puzzles, Nina comes to understand her father's life and his legacy. She also comes to terms with his death and finds a way to move on with her own life.
The story and gameplay in Another Fisherman's Tale is told in a nonlinear fashion, with you being able to to explore the dioramas in any order.
The story in Another Fisherman's Tale is heartwarming and charming with characters that are well-developed and relatable. Nina is a likable protagonist, and her father is a complex and interesting character. It's a story about family, loss, and the power of imagination. It's a story that will stay with you long after you've finished playing.
The gameplay in Another Fisherman's Tale is your straight forward first-person puzzle fare. You use your hands to interact with the dioramas, and you can even detach your hands from your body to reach objects that are out of reach. The puzzles are challenging but not frustrating, and they always feel satisfying when you finally manage to work out what needs to be done.
One of the things that makes Another Fisherman's Tale so special is its use of VR. The game takes full advantage of the PSVR 2's haptic feedback and eye tracking, which creates a truly immersive experience. You feel like you're actually inside the dioramas, and you can even interact with the objects around you in a way that you never could in a traditional game.
The visuals in Another Fisherman's Tale are also great through the VR headsets display. The dioramas are beautifully detailed, and the game's use of lighting is particularly impressive. The PSVR 2's high-resolution display really makes the game's visuals pop with your ability to look around the environments freely in order to complete each of the puzzles.
Another Fisherman's Tale is a short game (running in around 3 hours in length), but it's a sweet and memorable one. It's a perfect example of how VR can be used to create truly unique and immersive experiences. If you're a fan of puzzle games or VR, then you should definitely check out Another Fisherman's Tale.
